Something I learnt this week
There isn’t even close to enough time in my life to achieve everything I want too. I have to be selective. Work seems to take up about 36.25 hours per week (funny that) and that leaves me with only 131.75 hours. Out of that 131.75 hours I need to spend at least 56 sleeping or I don’t function very well, that leaves me with only 75.75 hours. Out of the remaining 75.75 hours I estimate that 7.5 are used travelling to and from work and 7.5 hours getting ready to go to work. That leaves me with only 60.75 hours.
That’s 60.75 hours to:
- Relax
- Have fun with friends
- Do uni work (that’s supposed to account for another 24 hours each week - it doesn’t quite)
- Do other work (yes I have two jobs)
- Exercise
- Cook, eat and clean
- Stuff about on the computer with various projects
- Garden
- Upkeep the yard (as distinct from gardening)
- Perform general home maintenence (like fixing the damn dripping taps)
- Anything else that might just pop-up.
If only there were more hours in the day.
Meh…
I really did want to get a post together for today but I just couldn’t think of anything to say. So I’m just going to ramble on for a bit.
I really didn’t feel like getting out of bed this morning (not that that’s much different from most other mornings) because it was raining. It makes for a very relaxing day but kind of shits me as well because I’m going camping for the weekend. Let’s hope it clears up before tonight. The fact I had soccer at 9:45pm last night doesn’t help my ability to get out of bed. I didn’t get home until after 11pm and I’m really not used to staying up until 2:30am on a week night (as happened in Sydney on Tuesday).
Easter is coming up and Laura and I are going to take the opportunity of a couple of days off work to hit the Brisbane wedding/ reception venues and see if we can’t put together some sort of short list. We also hope to nail down a date.
Uni is in full swing and taking up no where near enough of my time yet. Browny and I are doing the IT Project subject this semester; our project is to build a website for the Shin Dig Social Group. I’ll put the web address up here when there is actually something to look at. We are building it in PHP using a MySQL database - neither of us has used PHP extensively before so it should be a fun learning task.
Something I learnt this week
The word ‘prolix’ meaning:
\pro-LIKS; PRO-liks\, adjective: 1. Extending to a great length; unnecessarily long; wordy. 2. Tending to speak or write at excessive length.
Apparently this is one of Kim Beazley’s favourite words.
This is why I don’t want to work in a professional services firm
Following is an exchange of emails between me and my mate [Anonymous] who is an accountant. Most professional service firms record every minute of every employee’s day. He has to break his day into six minute blocks and at least 85% of his time must be billed to a client (and he has to come in under budget for each client).
AND IVE ALREADY MISPLACED 4 UNITS OF TIME… JUST GREAT! Regards, [Anonymous]
Stop emailing me!! And don’t read this!! ahh, crap, now you’ve done it. Another unit down! S.
LOST 8 now… oh crap…. i need to find a slush fund.. One of the other guys in our group has a client with a huge budget and the work is quick…. thats the job you want… Ill be up at uni at quarter past 4… ill ring ya and we can polish up the report a bit more. Regards, [Anonymous]
