Mutual Plug

with one comment

I just got a ping back on the new Footnotes plugin from a clearly new/experimental WordPress site in German which was sporting a fantastic look by Phu Ly developed as part of his Theme A Day series. It reminded me that I should join the masses and give his great work a plug.

Growing with pace

without comments

This site is by no means a high traffic place. In fact, according to Google Analytics, most days I struggle to get too far past double digits for the number of visits. However, starting from when I installed Google Analytics a while back, I’ve been slowly morphing into a stats whore. When I was looking through the statistics today this jumped out at me:

Some site stats

We’re not even at the end of February yet, and despite a slowing post rate this year, I’ve almost had more hits in 2006 than I did in all of 2005. Makes me think I should take Yaro’s course and actually try and make something of this place. Of course, I won’t be, for now anyway. I’ve got a business to get running this year and that will be a big enough challenge. Soon enough I’ll be directing every piece of traffic I can to the business site.

Incidentally[1] I’m thinking of entering the Best Business Idea Awards 2006. So any of you out there with good business ideas, do me a favour and stay well away from that one so I have at least some slim chance of winning.

  1. And thanks to Yaro for the tip off. []

Scooter Limbo

with one comment

There has been a post brewing for a while about our activities on Australia Day, namely the Second Annual Scooter Limbo Championships[1]. I realise I’m almost a month late, but the post still isn’t done, so I’ve prepared this quick teaser. Scooter Limbo

  1. That’s not to forget the pie eating contest, barbecue and the slip’n’slide. []

Coffee, Summer Storms and Bad, Bad Grammar

without comments

I’ve just taken my morning trip to Merlo for some of the very best coffee Australia has to offer[1]. This morning the coffee was particularly good and to make it even better, just as I was walking back to the office, one of the best things about Brisbane happened; a summer shower. This unfortunately reminded me that there are probably only a few summer storms left this season. I will never tire of Brisbane summer storms.

As I was walking past the paper stack I noticed (for once) an interesting looking article on the front page of The Courier Mail: Uni rocked by marking fiasco. It’s pretty hilarious in an embarrassing kind of way (embarrassing for the uni involved that is). A student is told that in order to improve his marks he needed to produce “more smarter writing.” Hilarious!

  1. I’m not kidding! Anyone who knows me knows how much of a free advertisement I am for Merlo. []
