Flickr Fest and a Splendid Splendour Lineup

Dragonfly a Little CloserI’ve been having a Flickr Fest over the past couple of days. I’ve discovered how much more addictive it can be when you start joining groups and contributing to pools. I’ve really taken a liking to the Judgement Day group because they’ve given me some really valuable and useful feedback on a few of my photos. Not only that but there are some photos in there which are just wonderful beyond description[1].

There is also some wonderful street art exposed to the world via Flickr. Without Flickr I may never have heard of the Listen Bird. It’s art like this that gives graffiti a great name. Something a little closer to home (which I’ve mentioned before) is the group dedicated to capturing Brisbane’s Traffic Signal Box Art. There is heaps more street art around Brisbane worth checking out too.

I spotted some fantastic body art over the weekend using Flickr Leech as well as some truely scary stuff[2]. My favourite tattoo out of everything I saw by plugging 44124357558@N01 into the Group Pool function on Flickr Leech was this massively cute little number. Some people have wonderfully creative ideas about how to permanently scar their bodies, like this chick who has the lyrics to a Bjork song tattooed on her back in braille. That photo was taken at a Modest Mouse concert, which gives me a tenuous link to the second subject of this post: Splendour in the Grass.

The lineup was announced today, and it’s exceedingly good. Just enough to convince me that the price increase is worth it. For camping and festival entry this year we’re going to have to shell out $259 each. The new ticketing system[3] worries me a little and makes me think getting camping tickets could be a bit of a lottery.

Splendour Lineup

Saturday 22 July

Sunday 23 July

  1. Have a browse through the 58+ Best of the Best! thread. []
  2. Some people do some bizare things to their body. Check out the Cat Man for instance. []
  3. Tickets are only being sold via the Splendour website or a special ticketing phone line this year in an attempt to avoid the horrible levels of scalping that happened last year. []
  4. The Avalanches are doing a DJ set which is really cool. If can possibly do it make sure you check out some of their radio mixes. Very cool stuff. []

Short and Sweet

Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the HeadI’m currently listening to Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head. It’s giving me a warm fuzzy feeling inside and making me feel like hugging everyone.

We’re going to see them live in June thanks to Tony and/or Jiselle for being on the ball and snatching tickets before they all sold out.

Splendour tickets go on sale very soon too. I’m determined not to miss them this year!

Damn! I went through the whole day thinking it was yesterday.

Which means I totally forgot to wish two important people a happy birthday!

Happy Birthday Aidan and Happy Birthday Nathan!

Here is a picture I took in celebration:

Since I’m talking about birthdays I might as well do a wrap up of my birthday. The actual day was a pretty low key affair (I went to work) but I did play soccer (always a highlight) and I had the Easter long weekend to look forward to. We absolutely killed the opposition at soccer. Coming of the previous week where we knocked off the two top teams[1]in mens we had another mens double header (back to back) as well as a mixed game. We are now well clear of the top of the table in mens.

Laura and Jiselle took it upon themselves to organise me a birthday party at the very last minute and got the grand total of six people there (including themselves) after buying food for 20. The six also included my Mum. I think they had hoped for a bit better turnout, but thanks anyway for trying, girls.

On Saturday evening my immediate family climbed the Story Bridge as part of my birthday present, which was pretty damn cool.

Sunday and Monday saw various activities mostly involving the computer from what I recall.

  1. That is, aside from ourselves obviously. []

Charlotte

Monday morning I got an email from Aidan[1] telling me he is now an uncle! Monday night I had the pleasure of meeting the almost 24 hour old Charlotte for the first time. By my calculation/guess, aside from nurses and doctors, etc., I was the fifth person to hold her, which is really cool!

Huge congratulations to Emma and the whole family. I can’t wait to see her at home and watch her grow under the guidance of the loving family she is lucky enough to have.

  1. Apparently, according to Coffee Shop Girl, Aidan can also be spelt Eiden. []
