Wedding Update

Well, th' RSVP date has come an' gone, an' thar be only a couple o' stragglers; 't looks as tho we be goin' t' be havin' a pretty full restaurant fer th' reception. By me count we be havin' twenty swabbies who canna make 't, which be more than we thought we'd get but most o' them be havin' good excuses, so 'tis arrr. Th' buck's an' hen's parties be held on th' weekend an' from what I've heard, sea dogs an' land lubbers seems t' be havin' had fun. Th' lasses had a cocktail party on Saturday night while ... more

The Ooze's Creative Side

This week's ill conceived challenge1 (which continues, though who knows why) has prompted The Ooze to have a crack at creating some (much more realistic) potential logos for Without Pockets. His first installment, from yesterday, is hilarious. I think it's a little too Loony Toons to be what I'm looking for to represent Without Pockets, though it is a stroke of genius, representing WP with something which, by it's very nature, must have a pocket. That's the kind of lateral thinking I need more of. His second installment, which was really much more of a plea for me to stop ... more

A logo?

I am slowly but surely getting closer to being able to put something more than a placeholder page up at http://withoutpockets.com. The underlying code for the site is coming along nicely and I hope to have something to show my select group of testers later this week. But what I'm really struggling with is coming up with a design for the site. I have mapped out some general principles that I'd like to follow with the design, but I'm finding it difficult to get any inspiration that will get me off the ground. Back when the name for Without Pockets ... more

Frangipani II

So, the new design1 is on the field and so far, seems to be kicking ass. I'm pretty happy with this one, it's certainly the most fully fledged WordPress theme I've made, as well as being quite attractive. It basically came about because there were lingering issues with the last design in IE. Damn IE. I'm particularly happy with the 1000 words section (which uses a new plugin, more on that later). You can basically browse my entire Flickr account on this website now, including comments, tags, and even notes2 which is ultra cool. Some of that was possible in ... more

Sea Shanties: The New In Thing

Ok, maybe not, but I think they're cool! The Decemberists The Decemberists are an indie rock band specializing in morose sea shanties and upbeat songs regarding a myriad of fictional characters such as chimney sweeps and vagabonds. [last.fm] That is probably the coolest description of a band I've ever heard! Having listened to a fair bit of their music I wouldn't have said they 'specialize'1 in sea shanties. Nevertheless, their sea shanties are pretty cool. Have a listen to (the first 30 seconds) of The Mariner's Revenge Song at last.fm. Mr. Scruff Mr. Scruff also does a great sea shanty. ... more
