WP-Footnotes 1.3.1 for WordPress 2.1.x
A new version of the Footnotes plugin (now called WP-Footnotes) is in the wild. In fact, it’s had several updates since the 1.0 version went into the wild a week ago and is now at v 1.3.1. See all the details on the WP-Footnotes page of this site or check it out over at the WordPress.org site.
Update: Feature requests and bug reports should now be submitted using my bug tracking site.
Hey Simon,
what about adding an option for decimals with leading zero inside the options pane of wp-footnotes?
Best regards and thanks again for this awesome plugin!

Hi Martin,
Good to see you’ve still got your eye on this plugin. Thanks for your help in the past.
Different numbering systems are definitely on the to do list. At the moment I’m restricting it to numbering systems that can be rendered by CSS. I’ll make sure decimal with leading digits is added to the desired list. Cheers, Simon.

Hi Simon,
of course I do - great things need to be kept always in my mind..
Regarding my help for your plugin, you’re welcome!
Anyway, decimals with leading zeros are already part of CSS.. - see http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/generate.html#lists for more information..
Take care,
Martin..

Just installed the newest one…
And I must say that while it got a lot better indeed, W3C is adamant about there not being a “start” attribute in ol tag, so it no longer validates unless I edit that out.

I cannot confirm this since although http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.troublezone.net%2F&warning=0&profile=css3&usermedium=all gives me some warnings, none of them are related to footnotes.. - Only because of -moz-stuff (not really part of CSS) and some opacity-problems which are only part of the CSS 3-draft, but displayed by Firefox..
Anyway, from what I can tell, your WP-Footnotes seems to be broken.. Maybe you didn’t uninstall (delete) the old footnotes.php?

Hi Mihara,
The start attribute should only be used when a start number other than one is specified by the author. I will ensure it doesn’t exist unless a start value is specified for the next release.

I’ve added this great plugin to my site, but one other plugin erased all I had in the field “Some CSS to style the footnotes (or anything else on the page for that matter):”
Can you please tell me what the default values were so I can copy it back?

This is a fantastic plugin, thank you. Just what a person who is as prone to tangents as I am needs.
Now, can someone please tell me how to edit out the start attribute or whatever it is I need to do to make it validate?
And, is there any way to make this work with my inline more plugin? As is, it lists the footnotes beneath my “show more” tag. I realize I can make it not show the footnotes at all on the main page, but the point of my inline more plugin is that people can stay on the main page, and not have to load the single post page.
Thank you so much!
PS. I couldn’t submit this comment until I changed my screen resolution to 1440×900 so I could see the comment button. Weird.

does this not work with Wordpress 2.2? I uped it, activated it and neither (( or
<
blockquote> are working, there’s a footnote option so I know it’s activated

Hi Nigel, it definitely should be working with WP2.2.1. Grab the latest version and if you’re still having trouble, let me know.

Thanks alot for this great plugins. I have a questions for you, Simon Elvery. I wanna know how to change the line spacing of the wp-footnote output. The default line spacing is 1.5 lines and wanna change it to 1 line.
Thanks,

Hi Gijet, have a look in the options page (options->footnotes). There is some default CSS in there, you can change it to whatever you want. You probably want to fiddle with either line-height or the margins on the li elements.
