Network Neutrality: Keep Internet Access Equal

There is an article in today's Australian Financial Review about about the growing issue of Network Neutrality (although it waffled a little and ended up talking more about the state of Australia's broadband generally). Network Neutrality is, in my opinion, a huge and really important issue.

I'm somewhat surprised at the low level of coverage this issue has received in Australia. I guess maybe it is overshadowed by the other internet/broadband related issues we face, though it shouldn't be.

Nevertheless there have been a number of interesting articles published about it:

I'm especially surprised it hasn't been covered a little more by Australian bloggers and participants in popular internet forums.Bleeding Edge and ABC's TechTalk forum.">1 I've only found one reference to it on TechTalk, one thread and a measly three replies on Whirlpool and nothing on the Bleeding Edge forums even after a post about it.

So everyone, get out there on your various soap boxes and make some noise and get as many people as possible thinking about this issue. We need to send a clear message to our (let's face it, sometimes kind of thick) legislators and internet access providers.

  1. My favourites are Bleeding Edge and ABC's TechTalk forum. []

Hi, I'm baffled by this too. There doesn't seem to have been any serious analysis of whether similar measures would be attractive to network carriers here in Australia...

I suspect similar ideas have definitely crossed the minds of ISPs in Australia. I understand that iiNet, for example, is prioritising its VoIP traffic over other VoIP traffic on its network.
