Recent speaking
For the sake of posterity, I thought I'd note some of the speaking I've done recently.
In February I spoke at the Brisbane edition of Web Directions' What Do You Know series where I had a ball and spoke about responsive tables. There were some other great speakers, including the prolific and talented Andy Clarke, who I rather embarrassingly mistook for the also prolific and talented Andy Budd. I was also lucky enough to take home a pretty swish looking umbrella thanks to being voted favourite by the crowd on the night. This is my new career highlight.
More recently I was invited to speak about my ongoing, but ever so slightly stalled, personal geolocation project, alltheplacesigo.com at the inaugural GeoRabble Brisbane. It was a crowd of raucous, but serious looking GIS industry professionals—I was definitely out of my comfort zone.
For GeoRabble, I had a second attempt at using Prezi with much better results than last time. The platform has come a long way since 2010. Although they make little sense without the talking that went with them, you can check out the slide deck, which starts at The Pig & Whistle and follows my usual walk home.
On a final note, a co-speaker at both events was Damon Oehlman who I'd been trying but failing to meet for at least a year. At WDYK he spoke about his Javascript CSS3 animation framework called Bedazzle and at GeoRabble it was CouchDB and the GeoCouch extension. Both highly educational. And for anyone who's interested, he's on the line-up for Web Directions Code which looks well worth a visit.
