Since last time

with 3 comments

Not Really the End of the TunnelI never seem to be able to write up events in my life and stick them here in a timely manner. Soon all my posts may be best categorised before I forget[1].

So, since last time lots of stuff has happened.

Without Pockets

I’ve started working for myself from home two days a week as of July in an effort to start a new business. I hope to launch in early October just after the wedding, I hope that is a realistic time frame. Look for something more interesting than nothing at withoutpockets.com.au soon. I’m still debating with myself on the best domain name to use. I’ve registered withoutpockets.com, withoutpockets.net, without-pockets.com, without-pockets.net and withoutpockets.com.au. Ultimately, they will all point to the same place, but I will only advertise one, so what do you think?

Adventures in the Underground

Last Friday evening I went into the underground on my first urbex[2] photography treck. Aidan, Gibbs and I went exploring in Brisbane’s storm water drain system and I got what I recon are some killer shots. I can’t wait for the next when I vow to be heaps more prepared, especially with the lighting kit I take.

Check out all the photos in 1000 Words or with this lovely Flickr slide show.

The highlight was almost certainly finding, identifying and looking up the “Buranda Chimney.” I can only find one other picture of it on the ‘net, but certainly not one of the inside.

I’ve also been to Melbourne since my last post and have started uploading some photos.

  1. A category which really does need more posts anyway. I do have at least three drafts of stuff I’m rapidly forgetting just waiting to be cleaned up and published. []
  2. A little known (for now) term meaning ‘urban exploration.’ []

Happy 26th week of the year!!!

with one comment

Yep, it’s the last week in June and my life is getting very interesting; I’m about to go part time at my current job and start building a mighty cool business. I was in Melbourne for work last week where I was lucky enough to catch the Australia v. Croatia World Cup match. The tension throughout the game and the celebrations at the end at Federation Square were pretty damn fantastic. Pitty about the poor result in the early hours of this morning (but we still love you Socceroos!).

We (that’s Laura, Jiselle, Tony and I) saw Coldplay on Saturday night. In short, they were awesome Ooze[1] has a better account of the evening.

Meanwhile, the music is just starting for me. Eels await on 20th July quickly followed by a week of ear drum busting goodness at Splendour in the Grass!

Bring it on.

And a New Legal Entity is Born

I did something for the first time today. I registered a company. I am now officially a company director and a company secretary.

Growing with pace

without comments

This site is by no means a high traffic place. In fact, according to Google Analytics, most days I struggle to get too far past double digits for the number of visits. However, starting from when I installed Google Analytics a while back, I’ve been slowly morphing into a stats whore. When I was looking through the statistics today this jumped out at me:

Some site stats

We’re not even at the end of February yet, and despite a slowing post rate this year, I’ve almost had more hits in 2006 than I did in all of 2005. Makes me think I should take Yaro’s course and actually try and make something of this place. Of course, I won’t be, for now anyway. I’ve got a business to get running this year and that will be a big enough challenge. Soon enough I’ll be directing every piece of traffic I can to the business site.

Incidentally[1] I’m thinking of entering the Best Business Idea Awards 2006. So any of you out there with good business ideas, do me a favour and stay well away from that one so I have at least some slim chance of winning.

  1. And thanks to Yaro for the tip off. []
